The Little Diva Jacket from Silk Diva
“All runs are small and everyone in the line from design to production and dispatch enjoys good working conditions and fair pay.”
Owner and designer Anna Pryor has a personal history with China.  Inheriting a rosewood box and two blue china dragons when her mother died were not the only reasons she has a fascination with the orient.  Another was a strong family connection with Hong Kong and Guangzhou where her Great, Great, Uncle William Farmer was buried. He was an entrepreneur and prominent hotelier who owned ‘The Swan’ on Shamian Island, near Guangzhou, and his story certainly played a part in further piquing her interest in the East.
She started Silk Diva in 2007 after teaching English in Hong Kong for 2 years and after that going back twice a year to buy fabric and have garments made in small runs in silk and other fabrics, styles and designs. From pattern making, to cutting and stitching, to the final touches, such as buttons and zips, it has been a personal journey of creativity and discovery.
From the silk markets of Hangzhou and Suzhou in the north, to Humen in Southern China and a close working relationships with pearl and silk workshops, personal tailors and currently two sisters and their husbands Silk Diva evolved into a small eclectic clothing line. All runs are small and everyone in the line from design to production and dispatch enjoys good working conditions and fair pay.
Anna has a close personal relationship with her tailors and their families, often sharing traditional meals with them and visiting their homes.
